A Table That Leaves an Impression
This journeyman piece shows how much skill, patience, and heart go into fine craftsmanship. The craftswoman Lisa-Luna Pellny built a solid oak table—reduced in form, precise in execution, with a clear feel for material and detail. Slim legs, clean radii on edges and rails, and a calmly matched grain: everything feels cohesive and carefully planned.
With this piece of furniture, she achieved 3rd place in the competition—a well-deserved award for a work that convincingly combines design and construction. The design competition “Die Gute Form” honors excellently designed journeyman pieces in the carpentry and joinery trades.
The Extension System: Pöttker Topslide 47
To keep the table flexible in everyday use, a Pöttker Alu/Steel Topslide 47 system is integrated. It guides the table halves precisely and enables an extension without disturbing the appearance. The additional leaves are space-savingly stowed and can be unfolded and locked into place with just a few simple steps.
Ball-bearing slides and well-considered stops ensure smooth movement that feels controlled and refined. Technology that remains mostly unseen in the finished furniture, yet is noticeable every day in use.
Folding Mechanism for the Extension Leaves
The extension leaves use a robust folding mechanism. The multi-link hinge allows the leaves to fold flat and open securely without skewing. Pull points and clear grip positions make handling intuitive—even for users unfamiliar with the mechanism.
Battened Joints in Solid Wood: Stability That Lasts
Solid wood moves—it responds to climate and humidity. To keep the large oak top flat over time, Pöttker grain battens are used. They guide the wood and limit warping without fully locking the natural movement. The surface stays even, joints close cleanly, and the mechanism runs smoothly in the long term.
Craftsmanship in the Details
Quality also shows in the transitions: precisely milled corners, neatly softened edges, coherent radii, and grain that continues thoughtfully across components. These details contribute to the calm overall impression—and they’re a reliable sign of careful workmanship.
A Well-Deserved Success
From construction and wood selection to final assembly—the craftswoman mastered each step with confidence. The result is a table that convinces in everyday use and impressed the jury for good reason. The 3rd place honors her craftsmanship and clear design decisions.
